The staff and students of Applefields School are proud to be affiliated with HMS Dragon.
Over many years the staff and students of Applefields School had a close and long standing affiliation with HMS York, a type 42 destroyer. In September 2012 HMS York was decommissioned and as part of the Royal Navy’s development programme the Type 42 destroyers were replaced by Type 45 destroyers.
HMS Dragon is the fourth ship of the Type 45 or Daring-class air-defence destroyers built for the Royal Navy. She was launched in November 2008 and commissioned on 20 April, 2012. Although HMS Dragon’s adopted home is Cardiff, we are delighted that Commander Rex Cox RN and the crew of HMS Dragon have decided to maintain an affiliation with Applefields School.
Details of HMS Dragon and her deployment and recent activity can be found on the following link
The staff and students of Applefields School look forward to welcoming Commander Cox and members of the crew in summer term.
