From September 2017, school meals will be provided in partnership with North Yorkshire County Caterers. The school has outsourced the technical, operational and management of the preparation of the meals by way of a Managed Service with North Yorkshire County Caterers.
North Yorkshire County Caterers work with other special schools in North Yorkshire and are a not-for Profit Company who provide ‘a home cooked service and fresh food each day’. We have worked closely with them to provide an age appropriate school meal of nutritional standards whilst keeping the cost of the meal affordable. School meals are prepared on site and we are able to offer a single choice menu which is appealing, while continuing to provide a ‘family service’.
Alternatively, your son or daughter may bring a packed lunch. We would ask, however that you do not send your child to school with any product which may contains nuts.
From September 2017, we have kept the cost of the meal affordable at £2.35 per day / £11.75 per week, with no additional cost for special dietary requirements. To make it easier to make payments for meals we have introduced a new on-line payment system, ‘School Money’. This system will also enable you to make payments for trips and activities by providing you with an account that you can view on-line.
The school is able to provide free school meals for pupils whose parents are eligible. To qualify for a free school meal parents / carers must be in receipt of one of the following income related benefits:
You can apply on line at www.york.gov.uk/info/20071/free_school_meals/360/how_to_apply_for_free_school_meals or complete the Educational Benefits Form and return to the school. We will then pass this on to City of York Council, School Services. If eligible the school may also receive additional funding called the pupil premium.
Where for medical reasons your son or daughter requires a special diet, please provide a letter from your child’s GP and return it to school along with a completed Special Diet Referral Form. These forms can also be obtained from the School Office.
We encourage all our pupils to have a healthy and active lifestyle. If your son or daughter would like to bring a snack for a mid-morning break please send fruit or other healthy foods. We discourage children from bringing sweets, crisps, cola, pop or other fizzy drinks
